The ancient Greek philosopher Heracletus was one of the very first to ponder what was- and what was not true. His conclusions are arguable, but at least he accepted the inbound premise that truth exists in some form and it is profitable to pursue it. That’s more than you can say about most modern University Philosophy departments.
“Truth” – It used to be important. These days the search for truth has been replaced with the the search for meaning, a good time, self-awareness, peace, happiness or contentment. In other words, we seem not to care much about what is true, only what makes our little world feel better. Is it any surprise that we’ve become miserable exactly at the same rate we dismissed truth from our lives and tried to replace it with a bunch of self-referential drooling? Maybe, just maybe, getting back to truth-seeking is a better path. This is my walk along that path …
